39-Year-Old Suspect Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Collision near East Jacinto Street

TUCSON, AZ (January 10, 2024) – Wednesday, Juan Eduardo Basurto-Gaspar was arrested after a fatal pedestrian crash on North Stone Avenue.

Authorities responded to the scene around 10:00 p.m., near East Jacinto Street on January 3rd.

Reports indicate that Basurto-Gaspar was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 with no lights on and struck a woman before immediately fleeing the scene.

Paramedics arrived and took the 56-year-old female pedestrian to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Officers were eventually able to locate and arrest the driver, 39-year-old Basurto-Gaspar. He was charged with aggravated DUI, aggravated assault, and leaving the scene of a crash.

In addition, police found drugs on the woman who was struck. Authorities have not yet released her identity.
