93-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Car Collision near Pleasant Grove Road
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (January 10, 2024) – Friday afternoon, a two-vehicle collision on Cornelius Avenue claimed the life of Joe Otto Krieg.
The fatal collision happened around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cornelius Avenue and Pleasant Grove Road.
Based on the investigation, a 2017 Toyota Prius going eastbound on Cornelius pulled directly into the path of a southbound 2019 Toyota Highlander.
Consequently, the 19-year-old man from Citrus Heights driving the Highlander failed to avoid the Prius and hit the driver-side door.
The first responders declared the Prius driver dead at the scene. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office later identified the deceased driver as 93-year-old Joe Otto Krieg of Nicolaus.
Police said the driver of the Highlander and his three passengers remained uninjured. Additionally, a portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
