Four Fatally Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash near Horse Canyon Road

MOJAVE, CA (January 8, 2024) – Friday evening, four victims were killed in a wrong-way accident on Highway 14.

Police officers responded to the scene around 8:41 p.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway just south of Horse Canyon Road.

According to California Highway Patrol, the driver of a southbound Mercedes attempted to pass a slower-moving vehicle by veering into the northbound lanes. Consequently, the Mercedes collided head-on with a Jeep traveling in the opposite direction.

First responders declared the 61-year-old driver and passenger of the Mercedes dead at the scene. In addition, the 23-year-old female driver of the Jeep and her 27-year-old passenger were also killed.

Paramedics also transported a 24-year-old passenger from inside the Jeep to Antelope Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. 

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased victims once available.
