Man Killed in Pedestrian Collision on Highway 99 [Bakersfield, CA]
42-Year-Old Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Multi-Vehicle Crash near Merle Haggard Drive
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 3, 2024) – Monday evening, one man was killed in a pedestrian collision on Highway 99.
Around 8:40 p.m., police responded to the scene just north of Merle Haggard Drive.
Officers say the man was driving a Hyundai when he became involved in the initial collision. He then exited his vehicle and ran west across the highway.
There, the driver of southbound Acura struck the man while traveling at about 70 miles per hour. Multiple other vehicles then struck the man, causing fatal injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased victim.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the Acura driver to Kern Medical for treatment of moderate injuries. At this time, Bakersfield Officials continue to investigate the fatal Highway 99 pedestrian crash.
