41-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near Texas Avenue

MERCEDES, TX (December 26, 2023) – Late Friday afternoon, Vanessa Villarreal Moreno was killed in a 2-car accident on Interstate 2.

Officers responded to the scene around 4:36 p.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway near Texas Avenue.

Investigators say a Ford Focus and a Dodge Ram collided in the area. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced a passenger inside the Ford, 41-year-old Moreno dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics took the female driver of the Ford to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen with critical injuries.

Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
