Woman Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Newport Drive

CONTRA COSTA, CA (December 26, 2023) – Late Thursday night, a person died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Highway 4 near Discovery Bay. 

The fatal incident happened around 11:42 p.m. along the westbound lanes of Highway 4 near Newport Drive. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened in a non-freeway area of Highway 4. 

First responders declared the pedestrian dead at the scene. Authorities only identified the victim as a female pedestrian. 

CHP Michael Taylor said he was not sure whether the pedestrian was making a legal crossing. However, he pointed out that walking on that road at night is dangerous. 

The identity of the deceased victim remains undisclosed to the public, pending notification from the next of kin.
