Man Dies in Rear-End Semi-Truck Crash on State Route 49 [Grass Valley, CA]
61-Year-Old Driver Killed in SUV vs. Freightliner Collision near McKnight Way
GRASS VALLEY, CA (December 20, 2023) – Early Friday evening, one man was killed in a rear-end semi-truck crash on State Route 49.
The fatal collision happened around 5:44 p.m., just north of McKnight Way.
Based on the initial investigation, a 2021 Freightliner slowed down the freeway following a previous collision clean-up near Smith Road.
As a result, a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek traveling behind failed to stop on time and collided with the back of the semi-truck.
Responding medical personnel transported the Subaru driver to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities only identified the deceased driver as a man in his 61-year-old.
Police suspect intoxication to be a factor in the incident. The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
No other details surrounding the State Route 49 rear-end crash have been released to the public at this time. Grass Valley Officials will provide more information once available.
