5-Year-Old Child Fatally Struck in DUI Accident near Morello Avenue

MARTINEZ, CA (December 20, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, a 5-year-old child was killed in a single-vehicle DUI crash on State Route 4.

Dispatchers responded to the westbound lanes of the freeway, just west of Morello Avenue around 12:00 a.m., on December 17th.

Investigators say the driver of a grey Honda CR-V veered off the road and slammed into a tree. Paramedics arrived and transported the driver and an 11-year-old to a nearby hospital.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced a 5-year-old occupant who was not restrained properly, dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, authorities arrested the driver with DUI and manslaughter charges. At this time, an active investigation is still ongoing. Once available, further details will be provided.

No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased child.
