Zachary Ornelas Died in Single-Vehicle Crash near 98th Street [Lubbock, TX]
24-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Crashing into Utility Pole near University Avenue
LUBBOCK, TX (December 18, 2023) – Early Friday morning, a vehicular accident near 98th Street claimed the life of Zachary Ornelas.
On December 8th, at around 1:10 a.m., police responded to a reported crash near the area of 98th Street and University Avenue.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, they arrived at the scene and found an SUV crashed into a utility pole and a tornado warning pole.
The driver, 24-year-old Ornelas, obtained life-threatening injuries and emergency responders transported him to University Medical Center.
Sadly, Ornelas died due to the extent of his injuries.
Upon investigation, the officers learned that Ornelas was traveling northbound and drove into multiple lanes before he crashed into the utility pole and the tornado warning pole.
No other details were added and the Lubbock Police Department Major Crash Unit is handling further investigation.
