71-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Crash near Marigold Avenue

CHICO, CA (December 12, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, Stephen Wilson was killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian collision on East Avenue.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly before 12:30 a.m., at the 1500 block of East Avenue near Marigold Avenue. 

Based on surveillance footage, police claimed that a pedestrian walked directly into the path of the vehicle, resulting in a collision. However, the driver did not stop and render aid to the pedestrian.

The vehicle matching the description was later discovered abandoned in an orchard in Chico. 

Responding emergency personnel declared the male pedestrian dead at the scene. He was later identified as 71-year-old Stephen Wilson of Oroville. 

At this time, police have not provided additional details about the suspect. Chico Officials closed East Avenue for at least five hours as crews investigated the incident.
