22-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Accident in San Patricio County
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (December 5, 2023) – Monday morning, Joaquin Puente was killed in a wrong-way collision on Highway 188.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:36 a.m., in the San Patricio County.
According to reports, 22-year-old Puente was driving a 2001 Buick Century on the eastbound lanes of the highway. For reasons under investigation, the Buick then began to drift into oncoming lanes.
There, the Buick struck the front left of a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by 71-year-old Charles Rodriguez, of Sinton. Upon impact, the Buick spun off before coming to rest on the eastbound lanes.
Paramedics transported a passenger inside one of the vehicles, 53-year-old Blanca Jones, of North Carolina to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital-Shoreline in Corpus Christi.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics later pronounced Puente deceased.
At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
