86-Year-Old Man Killed in DUI Accident near Treat Boulevard, Suspect Arrested 

CONCORD, CA (December 4, 2023) – A deadly hit-and-run crash on Oak Grove Boulevard Thursday evening took the life of Thomas O’Connell.

Authorities responded to the scene around 6:49 p.m., at the intersection of Oak Grove and Treat Boulevard. 

Upon arrival, officers learned that a second crash occurred at a nearby Oak Grove and Ryan Road. 

Shortly after, a passenger from one of the vehicles involved in the second crash died from his injuries at John Muir Hospital. He was later identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office as 86-year-old Thomas O’Connell, of Concord. 

Meanwhile, police arrested the suspect, 19-year-old Lopez-Avelino of Concord, for multiple charges including DUI, and felony hit-and-run.
