Head-On Collision Near Weekend Villa Road Left Ramona Woman Dead

SAN DIEGO, CA (November 29, 2023) – Saturday morning, a suspected DUI accident on State Route 78 claimed the life of a female driver. 

The fatal collision happened around 7:30 a.m. along the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just west of Weekend Villa Road. 

According to CHP, a 2019 Ford F-350 pickup truck going east on SR-78 went onto the opposing lanes. 

As a result, the Ford collided head-on with a 2007 Ford Edge SUV traveling westbound, sending the Edge rolling down an embankment. 

Unfortunately, the 44-year-old woman driving the Edge sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Her identity has not been disclosed to the public, pending notification from the next of kin. 

Following the crash, police said the driver of the F-350 exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Eventually, the 26-year-old man was arrested in his residence in Ramona. 

The male driver is currently facing charges of suspected DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter.
