Five Hospitalized after Rollover Accident near Interstate 5
BELLINGHAM, WA (November 1, 2023) – Sunday morning, Kiya Winder and four other teenagers were injured in a rollover crash on Northwest Avenue.
The incident happened just before 1:00 a.m., near Interstate 5 on October 29th.
Per reports, the driver of a pickup-truck was heading north and veered off the road before slamming into a concrete barrier near Northwest Avenue. The truck then rolled over, injuring five of its occupants.
Paramedics arrived and took the driver, 18-year-old Winter and four others to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
Investigators later said most of the occupants were not wearing seat belts. Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties before it later reopened just before 6:00 a.m.
Following preliminary duties, police suspect that alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
