Felipe Avalos Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run on South Broadway [Los Angeles, CA]
66-Year-Old Compton Man Arrested after Bicycle-Auto Collision near 115th Street
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 31, 2023) – On Wednesday, police took Felipe Avalos into custody following a deadly hit-and-run on South Broadway.
According to the report, the crash happened around 9:00 a.m. in the area of 115th Street and South Broadway.
Investigators said a southbound Chevrolet Astro struck a bicyclist, causing the bicyclist to be lodged underneath the van. The suspect kept driving southbound for a mile before dislodging the victim at Broadway and El Segundo Boulevard, police said.
Tragically, the first responders declared the male victim dead at the scene. However, his remained undisclosed to the public, pending notification from the next of kin.
Furthermore, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
Upon further investigation, authorities obtained the license plate of the Chevrolet van and located it at a residence in Compton.
On Wednesday, police arrested 66-year-old Felipe Avalos for suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently holding Avalos on a $50,000 bail.
