Eight Injured in Rear-End Accident near Border Patrol Checkpoint
YUMA, AZ (October 31, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, a speeding collision on Interstate 8 injured Customs and Border Patrol agents.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m., October 21st, at a Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety along with the FBI, DHS Office of Inspector General, and the CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, they arrived at the scene and found a Ford F-150 truck that had crashed at the immigration checkpoint.
Furthermore, investigation showed that the Ford was speeding when it crashed into the back of a stopped vehicle, the Ford then continued to drive, hitting a barrier and another vehicle, before it came to rest at the checkpoint.
A total of eight people were transported to the hospital including the two border agents who were then flown to the Phoenix advance care.
An update on Monday stated that three people were still in critical condition, the two agents and one occupant.
No additional information was added by the officials, and further investigation is currently ongoing.
