Street Racing near Dellwood Road Northeast Resulted in Two Fatalities, Multiple Injuries, Suspect Arrested

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (October 24, 2023) – On Sunday evening, the authorities arrested Andy Doreste-Saumell after causing a fatal collision.

It occurred around 7:20 p.m., October 8th, near the area of Louisiana Boulevard and Dellwood Road Northeast.

According to the Albuquerque Police Department, they responded to the scene and found three vehicles involved in the collision.

Furthermore, the investigation showed that 28-year-old Andy Doreste-Saumell was street racing with another vehicle, both vehicles were driving at high speed, when they came in contact with a third vehicle entering the intersection.

Moreover, the impact left the female driver and two 14-year-old passengers of the third vehicle to suffer critical injuries. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries and she passed away at the scene.

Meanwhile, the two 14-year-old passengers, together with the driver of the other vehicle with a 17-year-old passenger were rushed to the hospital. The 24-year-old male driver also died due to his injuries.

In addition, passengers of Doreste-Saumell, including a child, were injured and were given treatment.

Eventually, the police arrested Doreste-Saumell who he admitted to have driven above the speed limit. Authorities stated that Doreste-Saumell was not impaired at that time.

The police booked Doreste-Saumell in the Metropolitan Detention Center with homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, child abuse, and racing on streets/drag racing charges.
