63-Year-Old Man Killed in Wrong-Way Accident near Sacramento Avenue
YUBA CITY, CA (October 19, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, Gurdial Singh was killed in a wrong-way crash on Highway 99.
Authorities responded to the scene around 12:19 a.m., near Sacramento Avenue.
Per reports, 27-year-old Jonathan Rodrigo Merin Quiorz was driving south on the highway in the northbound lanes.
As a result, the wrong-way vehicle crashed head-on into a blue Honda Pilot, driven by Singh. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 63-year-old Singh, of Yuba City dead.
Meanwhile, crews airlifted Quiorz to UC Davis with major face trauma. In addition, a passenger inside the wrong-way vehicle, 25-year-old Macario Per, was taken to Adventist Health/Rideout Hospital in Marysville.
Following preliminary duties, officers arrested Quiorz for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
