Luis Bates Killed in Utility-Truck Collision on Ramona Expressway [San Jacinto, CA]
Two Pronounced Dead after Multi-Vehicle Crash near Warren Road
SAN JACINTO, CA (October 18, 2023) – Monday, Luis Bates and another victim were killed in a utility-truck collision on Ramona Expressway.
Police responded to the scene around 6:27 a.m., in the westbound lanes of the highway, just west of Warren Road.
For reasons under investigation, the driver of an SUV struck the median while attempting to pass a vehicle. Upon impact, the SUV was pushed into oncoming lanes where he collided head-on with a utility truck.
In addition, the SUV went back into the eastbound lanes where it struck another car.
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced two occupants inside the SUV dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics took two other drivers to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.
The coroner’s office later identified one of the deceased victims as 66-year-old Bates, of Artesia.
San Jacinto Officials temporarily closed Ramona Expressway, between Bridge Street and Sanderson Avenue for investigation. Those with additional information about the fatal crash can contact the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station at 951-766-2365.
