67-Year-Old Woman Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision Near Fruitvale Avenue On-Ramp
OAKLAND, CA (October 17, 2023) – Sunday evening, a rear-end crash on Interstate 580 claimed the life of an elderly adult female driver.
According to the CHP, the incident occurred around 5:41 p.m. on the Fruitvale Avenue on-ramp at the westbound I-580.
Reports indicated that a Volkswagen Beetle collided with the back of a Chevrolet SUV for reasons under investigation.
Unfortunately, the Volkswagen driver, identified to be a 67-year-old woman, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Investigators suggest that the woman was traveling at a high rate of speed when the collision happened.
It remains unclear whether the Chevrolet driver suffered any injuries. Moreover, a portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
No further details regarding the Interstate 580 rear-end crash have been released to the public. Oakland Officials will provide more information once available.
