WILCOX, AZ (October 16, 2023) – On Tuesday morning police responded to a two-semi-truck crash that killed a passenger.
The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m., October 10th, in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near milepost 354.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision involved a semi-truck and a tractor-trailer carrying ammonia.
Upon investigation, the officers learned that the driver of the semi had a medical emergency which led him to lose control of the vehicle and collide with the tractor-trailer.
Unfortunately, the passenger of the tractor-trailer was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver sustained life-threatening wounds.
Meanwhile, the driver of the semi suffered minor wounds only. Both drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Also, the authorities added that the tractor-trailer obtained major damages but no ammonia leaked.
Furthermore, they blocked the eastbound lanes and motorists were directed to other routes. The highway was reopened by Wednesday. Further investigation is still ongoing.
