Manhattan Beach Officer Dies in Multi-Vehicle Collision near Del Amo Avenue
CARSON, CA (October 6, 2023) – Wednesday morning, Chad Swanson was killed in a motorcycle crash on 405 Freeway.
Authorities responded to the scene around 5:15 a.m., near Del Amo Avenue.
According to reports, the driver of a vehicle made an unsafe lane change and collided with a second car. The second car then hit the officer, ejecting him from his patrol motorcycle onto the road.
Investigators said that a fourth vehicle may have also been involved in the incident.
Responding medical personnel transported the motorcycle officer to Harbor Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. Meanwhile, the other parties involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Authorities identified the deceased officer as 35-year-old Chad Swanson. Swanson was a 13-year veteran of the department and was one of the heroes of the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting.
