58-Year-Old Motorcyclist Fatally Struck in Deadly Collision near Edom

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (September 27, 2023) – Late Saturday afternoon, Roy Lewis Woods was killed in a motorcycle accident on FM 279.

Around 4:32 p.m., police responded to the scene near Edom after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.

Per reports, 63-year-old Karla Kay Coyle, of Brownsboro was driving a Ford F-150 east on the road. Meanwhile, Woods was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle and failed to negotiate a turn.

As a result, the two vehicles collided on the eastbound lanes. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 58-year-old Woods, of Ben Wheeler dead at the scene.

In addition, Coyle suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Emergency personnel closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
