Earl Castillo Arrested after Pedestrian Crash on U.S. 101 [Garberville, CA]
67-Year-Old Carmichael Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision near Richardson Grove State Park
GARBERVILLE, CA (September 26, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, a hit-and-run collision on U.S. Highway 101 led to the arrest of Earl Castillo.
According to reports, the crash happened around 1:30 p.m. along the U.S. 101, south of Richardson Grove State Park entrance.
Based on an eyewitness account, a man in a wheelchair stopped on the dirt shoulder, while waiting for a family member. Meanwhile, a 2010 black Toyota Tundra approaching from the southbound direction veered off the roadway and hit the pedestrian.
The Tundra driver then fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim. Responding emergency personnel declared the pedestrian, a 67-year-old man from Carmichael, dead at the scene.
Multiple witnesses at the scene provided crucial information regarding the driver. Additionally, CHP personnel managed to identify the vehicle debris from the black Toyota pickup.
Following a high-speed pursuit of the suspect, authorities eventually arrested 53-year-old Earl Castillo of Leggett. Police booked Castillo in Humboldt County Jail for suspicion of DUI causing graver injury and several other charges.
