Floatplane Incident on Lake Sammamish Resulted in One Death

BELLEVUE, WA (September 22, 2023) – Friday morning, a deadly floatplane crash on Lake Sammamish left pilot Anthony Jurcan dead.

The incident occurred on September 15th, just after 11:10 a.m., on Lake Sammamish.

According to reports, Jurcan and his son were in the single-engine Seawind 3000 when its engine failed. Witnesses state that the plane swung up and down before ultimately landing in the lake.

Following the crash, a nearby Good Samaritan dived into the water to rescue the plane’s two occupants. He got them to shore where another bystander performed CPR on the son, resuscitating him. Emergency crews transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, officials performed life-saving attempts on the pilot but were unable to save him. Officials pronounced 80-year-old Anthony Jurcan dead at the scene.

Afterward, the authorities towed the plane to the shore, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.
