Auto-Bicycle Collision Near Garden Drive Left 39-Year-Old Woman Dead

BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 20, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, a bicycle accident on South Union Avenue claimed the life of a female bicyclist.

CHP officers responded to the collision around 6:12 a.m. in the area of S. Union Avenue and Garden Drive.

Based on the initial investigation, a woman on a bicycle crossed directly into the path of a northbound 2010 Toyota Corolla in the No. 1 lane.

Police said the driver failed to avoid the bicyclist, resulting in a collision. 

Medical responders declared the 39-year-old female bicyclist dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed to the public, pending notification from her next of kin. 

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old woman driving the Corolla remained at the incident and cooperated with the investigators. A large portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Police do not suspect drugs and alcohol to be a factor in the crash.
