Two Men Pronounced Dead after Auto Collision near Hoag Street
SAN RAFAEL, CA (September 19, 2023) – Saturday morning, Jose Gonzalez and Gaytan Hernandez was killed in a car accident on Canal Street.
Police responded to the scene around 7:00 a.m., near Hoag Street at the 500 block of Canal Street.
According to a witness, the driver of a speeding vehicle on Canal Street was heading toward the street’s dead end before hearing a splash in the water. First responders arrived and located a vehicle submerged in the water.
The Southern Martin Fire Department Dive Team eventually managed to recover the two men inside the vehicle. However, one of the men died at the scene and the other died shortly after arriving to the hospital.
Authorities are still waiting for the toxicology report to determine further factors surrounding the collision.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office later identified the two deceased victims as Jose Gonzalez and Gaytan Hernandez. Both men are 21 years old.
