Solo-Vehicle Accident Near John Street Left 22-Year-Old Female Passenger Dead

RIVERSIDE, CA (September 18, 2023) – Early Wednesday morning, a single-vehicle crash on Victoria Avenue claimed the life of Joanna Huizar.

Officers responded to the accident around 12:05 a.m. at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and John Street. 

According to the police, a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man going in the wrong direction, westbound on Victoria. 

Subsequently, the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve and collided head-on with a palm tree in the center median. 

Responding emergency personnel declared the female passenger of the vehicle dead at the scene. She was later identified as 22-year-old Joanna Huizar.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported the male driver to a hospital for treatment of major injuries. Investigators believed that driving under the influence was a factor in the crash. 

Moreover, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for clean-up.
