3-Year-Old Child Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Accident near Palm Street

PERRIS, CA (September 15, 2023) – Thursday night, Odalys Navarro was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Steele Peak Drive.

Police responded to the scene near Palm Street around 7:48 p.m., on August 31st.

According to reports, the mother of Navaro was walking beside her while she was riding a bicycle in the Mead Valley area. There, the rider of a dirt bike struck Odalys and her mother, Rubi Navarro, who was 5 months pregnant.

Upon impact, the rider fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting authorities.

Medical responders transported Odalys to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. She was a few weeks away from turning 4 years old, according to her relatives. 

Paramedics also rushed Rubi Navarro to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Her unborn child is expected to be ok. 

California Highway Patrol officers managed to locate and arrest the 17-year-old male rider. Police booked motorcyclist into the Riverside Juvenile Hall for vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run charges. 

The CHP’s Riverside Investigation Unit asks those with additional information about the crash to contact their offices at 951-637-8000. 

Relatives of Rubi and Odalys Navarro started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs and additional medical expenses.
