Driver Wanted by Police following Deadly Bicycle-Auto Collision near Orchard Avenue
HAYWARD, CA (September 15, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, Chris Pena was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bicycle on Mission Boulevard.
Officers responded to the incident around 5:35 p.m. at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Orchard Avenue.
Upon arrival, they located the unconscious cyclist in the roadway with serious injuries. Responding paramedics immediately rushed the male victim to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased bicyclist was later identified as 55-year-old Chris Pena of Hayward.
Based on the investigation, a driver traveling at a high rate of speed hit the bicyclist and fled the scene. At this time, authorities are searching for an early model gray Mercedes E350, with silver five-spoke rims.
