Sammy Eugene Shepherd Dies in Motorcycle Accident on Loop 101 [Scottsdale, AZ]
56-Year-Old Motorcyclist Fatally Struck in Multi-Vehicle Collision near McDonald Drive
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (September 12, 2023) – Early Monday morning, Sammy Eugene Shepherd was killed in a motorcycle accident on Loop 101.
Dispatchers received calls just before 2:50 a.m., near the McDonald Drive overpass on September 4th.
Investigators determined that the 22-year-old female driver of a Jeep struck a motorcyclist for reasons unknown.
Upon impact, the Jeep overturned while the rider was ejected from the motorcycle onto the road. Shortly after, the driver of a passing Honda also struck the rider. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 56-year-old Shepherd dead at the scene.
In addition, paramedics took the female driver of the Jeep to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. She is currently being held for suspicion of DUI.
Meanwhile, officers blocked the northbound lanes of Loop 101 at McDonald Drive for cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
