Yannira Rodriguez Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 15 [Serra Mesa, CA]
32-Year-Old Woman Struck and Killed by Wrong-Way Vehicle
SERRA MESA, CA (September 5, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, a wrong-way crash along Interstate 15 left Yannira Rodriguez dead.
The incident happened on August 27th, at around 1:30 a.m., officers were dispatched in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Aero Drive.
According to reports, a black Honda Fit, driven by 32-year-old Rodriguez, was headed southbound on Interstate 15. There, a white Infiniti QX30 headed north in the opposite lane struck the Honda. The Infiniti then continued on and struck a tan Nissan Altima.
Following the crash, responding crews extricated Rodriguez from the Honda but she succumbed to her injuries. She was later pronounced dead.
Consequently, the officers took Rodriguez’s daughter, 13-year-old Genevieve Rodriguez, to the hospital to treat her injuries.
In addition, 25-year-old driver of the Infiniti, later identified as Andres James Cox, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Meanwhile, the 58-year-old driver of the Nissan did not sustain any injuries from the collision.
Subsequently, Cox was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury charges. He is scheduled to appear in court.
