Four-Vehicle Collision Near Powell Street Left One Injured

EMERYVILLE, CA (August 17, 2023) – Late Monday night, a big rig crash on Interstate 80 left one person injured and prompted road closures. 

The crash occurred after a UPS big rig crashed into a center divider, involving three other vehicles. In addition, the impact resulted in at least 20 gallons of gas leak from the big rig, but no drainage systems were affected. 

Responders worked to clear out the four lanes of westbound Interstate 80, just east of Powell Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, one driver sustained major injuries from the crash. However, it was unclear which vehicle the injured driver was in.

Moreover, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

At around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, officials successfully reopened all lanes of I-80 to traffic. As of now, no further details concerning the big rig crash have been released to the public.
