Driver in Custody Following Stolen Vehicle Crash Over American River Bridge
SACRAMENTO, CA (August 11, 2023) – Early Wednesday morning, a wrong-way accident on Highway 160 involving a stolen vehicle left one person injured.
The crash was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of 160, on the bridge just over the American River.
Initially, officers attempted to pull over the pickup truck for a vehicle code violation. However, the driver failed to comply and continued driving.
Subsequently, the northbound pickup veered into the southbound lanes of Highway 160 and collided with another pickup truck. Police said the impact of the crash caused the second pickup to hit a vehicle on its rear.
Eventually, emergency personnel arrived and transported one driver to a hospital after complaints of pain. Police also arrested the wrong-way driver for unspecified charges.
At this time, the identities of those involved in the crash have not been made public. Sacramento officials will provide more information about the Highway 160 collision once available.
