Man Killed in Pedestrian-Truck Collision on Highway 101 [San Martin, CA]
Pedestrian Accident near San Martin Kills 36-Year-Old Riverside Man
SAN MARTIN, CA (August 11, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, a pedestrian-truck collision on Highway 101 near San Martin left one person dead.
The deadly collision happened around 12:31 p.m. at the southbound lanes of 101, just north of San Martin Avenue.
According to the investigators, a man was re-securing his cargo while standing behind his vehicle on the right shoulder of the freeway.
However, a 2017 International two-axle box truck performed an unsafe turn, causing the truck to travel into the shoulder, and hit the man.
Medical responders performed life-saving efforts on the man at the scene before transporting him to San Jose Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, the unidentified victim died from his injuries a short while later.
The 53-year-old male truck driver from Oakland remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. The California Highway Patrol does not suspect drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the collision.
