Anthony Carreon Arrested after Fiery Crash on 5 Freeway [Newhall, CA]
Fiery Collision near Lyons Road Left 1 Woman Injured
NEWHALL, CA (August 7, 2023) – On Tuesday afternoon, a fiery crash on the 5 Freeway left one woman hurt, and Anthony Carreon arrested.
The incident occurred on July 25th just after 8:30 a.m. and continued at 12:30 p.m., near the 5 Freeway and Lyons.
According to investigations, Carreon was traveling in a Dodge Challenger at high speeds in the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway. Police attempted to stop him for speeding. The Challenger sped away and the pursuit was called off.
Later, at 12:30 p.m., officers spotted the Challenger and again initiated a pursuit. Police installed a spike strip in the path of the vehicle. In an attempt to avoid the spike strip, Carron veered to avoid it but lost control. He struck a Toyota Rav 4 driven by a 75-year-old woman. The Challenger then came to a stop after striking a light pole. Both vehicles caught fire and the woman became trapped in her vehicle.
Emergency crews arrived at the site of the collision shortly after. From there, paramedics transported the woman to Henry May Newhall Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Anthony Carreon, 20, of Baldwin Park, and two other people in the Challenger tried to flee the area. Police apprehended them shortly after.
