79-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck in Wrong-Way Accident near Coleman Road

CHURCHILL COUNTY, NV (July 31, 2023) – Friday afternoon, Kristie Jo Harmon was killed in a wrong-way collision on U.S. 50.

Police responded to the scene around 1:00 p.m., near Coleman Road.

Investigators say the driver of a gold 2006 Toyota Avalon was heading east on the highway. Meanwhile, a gray 2022 Ram 2500 was heading west in front of a white 2016 Ford F-250.

For reasons unknown, the Avalon then veered across the center divider into oncoming lanes of traffic. There, the left side of the Avalon struck the rear of the Ram 2500.

The Avalon then came to rest facing east in the westbound lanes while the F-250 came to rest facing west in the westbound lanes.

Medics arrived and transported an occupant from inside the Avalon, 79-year-old Harmon to a nearby hospital where she later died. Crews also took the Avalon driver, an adult male, to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
