Suspect Turns Himself in after Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash near Meridian Road

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (July 19, 2023) – Monday morning, Robert Moyer was arrested after a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash on U.S. 60.

The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m., near the Meridian Road off-ramp on July 16th.

Following investigations, officers determined that the driver of a white single-cab flatbed pickup-truck struck a teenage girl as she was walking along the lanes.

Upon impact, the driver fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting authorities. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the 16-year-old female pedestrian dead at the scene.

The suspect later identified as 45-year-old Robert Moyer, from Peoria eventually turned himself in. Per reports, Moyer told a Sheriff that he fell asleep at the wheel and did not know whether he hit a vehicle or a person.

A witness to the incident told officers that the driver was swerving in and out of lanes, before veering into the emergency lane where the collision occurred.

Eventually, Moyer was taken into custody with hit-and-run charges causing death and he was held on a $150,000 bond. Once available, further details will be provided.
