12-Year-Old Girl Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Accident on Belmont Street

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 30, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, Yelina Tarango was killed in a hit-and-run crash on East Carey Avenue.

Authorities responded to the scene around 3:40 p.m., near Belmont Street on June 20th.

Per reports, the driver of a 2005 Cadillac Escalade and a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro were traveling recklessly on the northbound lanes. The Cadillac driver then ran a red light and struck a pickup-truck at the intersection.

Upon impact, the Cadillac continued driving and struck another vehicle and Tarango who was standing on the sidewalk. First responders arrived and pronounced 12-year-old Tarango dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, witnesses reported to have seen the Cadillac driver flee on foot and jump over a nearby wall. As a result, officers located and arrested 19-year-old Alfredo Cabrera Jr.

Police took Cabrera Jr. to North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center where he was charged with felony reckless driving resulting in death. Meanwhile, crews were unable to locate the second suspect.

Medics also transported two other victims to nearby hospital for further treatment. Once available, further details will be provided.
