74-Year-Old Tacos Delta Co-Founder Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Echo Park

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 31, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, a pedestrian-auto collision in Echo Park claimed the life of Tacos Delta’s co-founder, Maria Esther Valdivia.

The deadly incident happened around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Scott Avenue and Glendale Boulevard. 

Based on the report, Valdivia was attempting to cross the street inside a crosswalk when a 1999 Mercedes Benz E320 hit her. Authorities said the collision left Valdivia with serious head injuries. 

Subsequently, the driver exited their vehicle and assisted Valdivia until the first responders arrived. The driver of the vehicle did not display any signs of impairment at the scene, according to the police. 

Unfortunately, after undergoing brain surgery, 74-year-old Maria Esther Valdivia succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on May 25th. 

Maria Esther Valdivia is known to be the co-founder of the “Taco Delta” neighborhood restaurant, which has been around Silver Lake and Hollywood for 42 years. 

At this time, it was unclear whether the Mercedes driver was charged. However, the Los Angeles Police stated that there was no indication of hit-and-run from the incident.
