Two Pronounced Dead after Head-On Accident near Molera Road
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (May 26, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, Dorothy Cousins and James Hendrickson were killed in a collision on Highway 1.
The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m., just south of Molera Road between Castroville and Moss Landing.
Per reports, the driver of a southbound blue 2016 Mazda CX-5 approached Highway 183 and crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. There, the Mazda struck a northbound 2016 GMC Sierra.
Paramedics arrived and transported the sole occupant inside the GMC 69-year-old David Hart, of Santa Cruz to Natividad Medical Center for further treatment of major injuries.
Meanwhile, medics pronounced the female driver of the Mazda, 79-year-old Cousins from Soquel, dead at the scene. Crews also pronounced the male passenger, 76-year-old Hendrickson, of Tennessee dead at the scene.
Another female passenger from the Mazda, described as a 73-year-old Tennessee woman, was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. The California Highway Patrol closed down Highway 1 for several hours as crews investigated the scene.
