Traffic Accident near Alpine Road Involving Truck Hauling Live Cattle Resulted in Fatality

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA (May 18, 2023) – Late Tuesday morning, one person was killed in a semi-truck crash on Highway 88 near Stockton. 

The fatal incident happened around 11:45 a.m. along Highway 88 near Alpine Road. 

According to CHP, a westbound semi-truck hauling 68 live cattle and a northbound gray Toyota SUV both approached the intersection. 

Investigators said the big rig approached a yellow light while the traffic light just turned green for the Toyota. Reports claimed that both vehicles continued at the intersection when the truck and trailer overturned and pinned the SUV underneath. 

At around 1:40 p.m., the responding emergency personnel managed to extricate the female SUV driver’s body from the vehicle. 

Unfortunately,  the SUV driver sustained significant injuries and died at the scene. However, her identity has not been disclosed to the public, pending notification from the next of kin. 

Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries. Additionally, a veterinarian responded at the scene to assess if any cattle required euthanasia.

San Joaquin County Officials said the drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the deadly incident. Those with additional information about the Highway 88 semi-truck crash are encouraged to contact the local authorities immediately.
