Jay Fred King III Hurt in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101 [San Rafael, CA]
Wrong-Way Collision near Interstate 580 Interchange Left Driver Dead and Another Injured
SAN RAFAEL, CA (April 25, 2023) – Early Saturday morning, Jay Fred King III was hospitalized following a fatal wrong-way crash along Highway 101.
The two-vehicle collision happened around 3:30 a.m., north of the offramp to Highway 580 Interchange.
According to reports, a red 2018 Nissan pickup truck was traveling north on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 for unknown reasons. There, the pickup driver collided head-on with a black 2011 BMW.
Responding fire personnel eventually arrived at the scene and declared the 22-year-old Nissan driver dead at the scene. Authorities only identified the deceased driver as a 22-year-old Santa Rosa man.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the BMW driver to Marin General Hospital for significant injuries.
Police later identified the injured driver as 30-year-old Jay Fred King III of Novato.
Currently, the California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and suspects the Nissan driver to be driving under the influence.
