39-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Panama Lane
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 6, 2023) – Thursday night, Richard Anthony Gonzales was fatally struck in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99.
Police responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway near Panama Lane on February 9th.
For reasons under investigation, Gonzales walked into traffic lanes where he was struck by a vehicle that was unable to brake in time.
Due to the impact of the collision, medics pronounced 39-year-old Gonzalez dead at the scene.
Following preliminary duties, officers determined that the driver was not under the influence at the time. However, it is still unclear if the pedestrian was under the influence.
Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
