Collision of Stolen Vehicle on California Street Resulted in the Arrest of Two 12-Year-Olds
BERKELEY, CA (March 1, 2023) – Monday night, two children were arrested after they crashed a stolen vehicle into a parked car on California Street.
The incident happened on February 20th, at about 9:50 p.m., when officers were alerted about a stolen silver 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Police attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the vehicle drove off. Due to the high speed of the stolen SUV, officers did not pursue the vehicle. However, the involved drivers later crashed into a parked vehicle.
Following the crash, authorities arrested a 12-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl in connection with the incident. The children were charged with possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
Eventually, authorities released the juveniles to their parents. At this time, further investigation into the stolen vehicle crash is underway.
A driver must stop and take certain actions when involved in a motor vehicle accident that results in property damage or injury to another party. Remain at the scene. If able, exchange particulars with the other parties involved and document the crash.
