One Pronounced Dead Following Two-Vehicle Accident on Gurr Road [Merced, CA]
22-Year-Old Died after Two-Vehicle Head-On Accident near Shippee Road
MERCED, CA (February 3, 2023) – Thursday morning, a two-vehicle accident on Gurr Road, south of Shippee Road, left one person dead.
The incident happened on January 19th around 10:30 a.m. involving a Toyota Corolla and a Chevy Silverado.
Investigation showed that the 22-year-old female driver of the Toyota was traveling south on Gurr Road and veered to the northbound lanes crashing head-on into the Chevy.
Furthermore, due to the impact of the collision, the Toyota overturned and was sent to its roof. The female driver suffered serious injuries.
In addition, paramedics performed life-saving efforts on the woman but she succumbed to her injuries. The Chevy was sent into a nearby canal and the passenger suffered minor injuries but refused treatment.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevy remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Police said that the driver showed no signs of impairment.
Both directions of the roadway were temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
At this time, it was unknown why the woman veered onto the other lane. Further investigation is still underway.
