Eduardo Hernandez Dead, Fred Harper Jr. Arrested after Hit-and-Run on Newland Street [Westminster, CA]
64-Year-Old Man Killed in DUI Hit-and-Run Collision near Westminster Avenue
WESTMINSTER, CA (January 27, 2023) – Friday morning, Eduardo Hernandez was killed and Fred Harper Jr. was arrested after a DUI hit-and-run.
Police responded to the scene around 10:00 a.m., near Westminster Avenue.
Per reports, deputies attempted to pull over a black Camaro for fraudulent tags. However, the driver failed to stop and ran a light at Trask Avenue in Garden Grove.
Shortly after, the suspect crashed into an eastbound BMW, driven by 64-year-old Hernandez at the intersection of Newland Street and Westminster Avenue. Upon impact, Harper Jr. attempted to flee the scene on foot.
In addition, Hernandez sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, his 54-year-old male passenger was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Although, authorities have not yet released his identity.
Around 2:00 p.m., authorities managed to arrest the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Fred Harper Jr. Officers charged him with second-degree murder, DUI, hit-and-run, and several other charges.
