1 Killed, 1 Hurt in Head-On Crash on Highway 165 [Merced County, CA]
Driver Pronounced Dead after Two-Car Collision near Westside Boulevard
MERCED COUNTY, CA (January 16, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, one victim was killed and another was hurt in a head-on crash on Highway 165.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., near Westside Boulevard.
According to reports, the 17-year-old female driver of a 2003 Honda Accord was heading north on the highway. Meanwhile, the 44-year-old female driver of a 2010 Dodge Caliber was heading south.
For reasons unknown, the Honda driver lost control and crossed over the center divider before colliding head-on with the Dodge in the southbound lanes. Upon impact, the Dodge overturned.
Paramedics arrived and transported the Honda driver to Mercy Medical Center in Merced with major leg injuries. In addition, the rear passenger of the Honda was taken to Doctor’s Medical Center with major head and upper body injuries.
Meanwhile, medics took the Dodge driver to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto by air-med. However, she was later pronounced dead due to the extent of injuries sustained.
At this time, investigators are saying weather conditions might be a factor in the incident; however, the head-on crash remains under active investigation.
