57-Year-Old Pilot Killed in Plane Accident on Lyons Peak
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 27, 2022) -Early Tuesday afternoon, Craig Cornford was killed in a plane accident on Lyons Peak.
Police said Cornford boarded the experimental plane, a Mustang-2, at approximately 12:41 p.m.
According to the County Medical Examiner’s report, a 911 call was placed and the dispatcher reportedly heard sounds of loud bangs and sputtering.
Furthermore, the San Diego Sheriff’s Air Support Division was notified and officers were dispatched to the area of Lyons Peak near Jamul.
Meanwhile, the officers found piles of the plane upon arriving and investigating the scene. Cornford was also found dead at the scene.
Authorities temporarily closed down a large area near Lyons Peak to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
No further information about the fatal plane crash is available at this time, San Diego Officials will release updates as they are made public. An active investigation is currently ongoing.
