Driver Plows into Taco Stand and Kills Man near Dudley Street

POMONA, CA (October 18, 2022) – Friday night, Gilberto Cazares Payan was fatally struck in a hit-and-run on West Holt Avenue.

The crash happened just before 7:45 p.m., at the intersection of Dudley Street and West Holt Avenue near Kiwanis Park. 

Per reports, Payan was picking up dinner when the driver veered into the taco stand tent and struck multiple people.

The female driver immediately fled the scene before she later turned herself in shortly before 11:00 p.m. She was only described as a 26-year-old woman from Pomona.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 52-year-old Payan dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported twelve other victims to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Following preliminary investigations, officers arrested the driver for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit-and-run.

At this time, Pomona Officials continue to investigate the West Hold Avenue hit-and-run.
